Michael Anthony
Kaidas
Mar 18, 1945 — Dec 6, 2024
Michael Anthony Kaidas, age 79, of Cleverdale, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, December 6, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born on March 18, 1945, in Schenectady, NY, Michael lived a life filled with hard work, bold ventures, and dedication to his community.
From a young age, Michael exhibited an entrepreneurial spirit. At just 17, he owned and managed a Sunoco gas station, setting the stage for a lifetime of innovation and determination. His love for cars started in his youth, when he could be found drag racing his prized 1967 Plymouth 426 GTX.
At 22, Michael married his wife of 57 years, Susan (Carlson), and together they embarked on a new chapter, moving to Lake George to operate the Boulders Bay Inn. There, Michael's charisma shone as he greeted guests with warmth and humor, took them waterskiing during the day, and ran the inn's restaurant in the evenings. He gained a reputation as a gregarious bartender and generous host.
Michael's ventures extended into construction, a passion that became a cornerstone of his life. From building additions at the inn to creating homes and renovating properties throughout his career, Michael brought vision and skill to every project. His self-taught expertise allowed him to tackle challenges others wouldn't dare attempt, earning him a reputation as a man who could fix or build anything.
In the 1970s, Michael and Susan built their family home in Cleverdale, where they raised their children, Christina and Michael. Summers were spent on Lake George, camping on the islands, and enjoying time with friends and family.
A dedicated member of the Glens Falls Lions Club since 1972, Michael served as District Governor from 1987 to 1988, spearheading efforts that raised $1 million for the Albany Eye Institute. He later served as President and Chairman of the Lions Foundation at Albany, exemplifying his commitment to community service.
Michael's business ventures evolved into Kaidas Kitchens and Baths and later into residential and commercial real estate development. His vision and hard work were instrumental in sparking the revitalization of downtown Glens Falls, leaving an enduring legacy for the community.
A man of strong convictions, Michael loved a good debate. He cherished his friendships, especially with members of the Wilton Rod and Gun Club, where he spent many hours among close friends later in life. He was also an excellent cook who loved to make soup from whatever ingredients were at hand.
Michael is survived by his wife, Susan Kaidas; his children, Christina Kaidas (Jason Henderson), and Michael Kaidas (Rachel); and his grandchildren, Ryland Henderson, Arden Henderson, Sebastian Kaidas, and Holden Kaidas.
Those who knew Michael will remember his captivating presence, his boundless curiosity, and his ability to turn challenges into opportunities. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose legacy lives on in the vibrant community he helped shape and the countless lives he touched.
