UPDATED FUNERAL NOTICE:
A graveside service, with military honors, will take place Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Warrensburg Cemetery.
TITUSVILLE, FL - Monty K. Baker, passed away at his home on Sunday, November 22, 2015 following a long illness caused by exposure to Agent Orange.
He was born in Glens Falls to the late Beecher H. and Anna I. Baker of Warrensburg.
He graduated from Warrensburg High School in 1967 and continued his education at the State University of New York at Cortland where he received a Master's Degree in History.
Monty was drafted and served in active duty during the Vietnam War. He was a proud veteran that witnessed many atrocities while in Vietnam, forever shaping his life.
Monty's passion was helping other veterans receive the benefits to which they were entitled. He was a vocal advocate in saving the Onondaga War Memorial, taking his cause to the media.
The highlights of his life were going to the Indy 500 with his father and attending Woodstock with his lifelong friend, John Hall Jr. He enjoyed cooking and was a devoted NASCAR fan. Monty was a phenomenal storyteller with a great sense of humor. His wit and laughter will be sorely missed by those closest to him.
Monty is survived by: his loving sister Karen Sipowicz of Warrensburg, his nephew David Sipowicz of San Diego, California, his niece, Jennifer Sipowicz-Neilands of Hudson Falls, his sister Fran (George) Heinrich of Gansevoort, his niece Kelly (Rick) Farmer of Gansevoort, his brother Beecher (Karen) Baker of Queensbury, and his special aunts; Mary (Chris) Sprague of Diamond Point and Marian Morey of Lake George. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Warrensburg VFW, 3754 Main St #1, Warrensburg, NY 12885.
At Monty's request there will be no calling hours. Services are to be determined at the discretion of the family.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to his close friend Buster Hamblin for all the emotional support he afforded Monty and to Cindy Vasquez and Ron Spade for watching over him during his final days, and to the Hospice of St. Francis of Titusville, Florida for their continued care.
