Obituary

Queensbury, NY – Nancy J. Armstrong peacefully passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026 at Glens Falls Hospital.

She was born in Kingston, NY on May 19, 1951. Nancy was the daughter of Charles "Chipe" and Catharine "Cay" Rhymer.

Nancy graduated from Kingston High School in 1969 and went on to earn her degree from The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam in 1973. She devoted 39 years to the Glens Falls City School District as a music teacher, influencing and inspiring countless students throughout her career. Nancy served as Music Director for the Lake George Youtheatre for nine years, contributing to 27 productions. She was a very proud accompanist/Music Director for the Glens Falls High School musicals from 2001 until 2015. In 2006, she won teacher of the year.  She was also an active and dedicated member of the Glens Falls Community Theatre from the time she moved to the area. Among her many musical pursuits, she found particular joy in Music Directing the Glens Falls Senior Seminar—an experience that meant so much to her that it would have broken her heart not to be part of it this year.

Nancy and David met while teaching at Broad Street School in Glens Falls and were married on a beautiful summer day in 1978 at the Johnsburg Methodist Church. Shortly thereafter, they welcomed their children, Kate, Luke, and Adam.

Nancy loved connecting with people and never forgot a name or a life story.  Her daily phone calls with her College and High School friends brought her so much joy.

For the past 20 years, Nancy cherished her trips to New York City to visit her son, Adam. Each visit was marked by a fancy haircut, followed by a Broadway show.

Nancy always found the time for piano accompaniment - not just because she loved playing the piano, but because she loved seeing others shine and grow through music. It is impossible to count the many concerts she conducted and accompanied over the years.

Nancy's greatest joy was her grandchildren. Whether she was cheering at Lex's baseball games, Etta's volleyball tournaments, or Poppy and Lola's hip-hop classes, Nancy was always there—proud, enthusiastic, and fully present. Time spent with her grandchildren brought her profound happiness, and through it she taught them a lasting lesson: the importance of simply showing up. Long, laughter-filled summer days were shared at Dave and Nancy's pool or at their camp on the Hudson River, never complete without Nancy's famous mashed potatoes and a never-ending supply of Dove Dark Chocolate.

Nancy is predeceased by her parents as well as her sister, Linda Molyneaux.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, David; children, Kate (Jeff) Rozelle of Queensbury, Luke (Anni) Armstrong of Saratoga Springs and Adam Armstrong of NYC/Lake George; grandchildren, Lex and Etta Rozelle and Poppy and Lola Armstrong; sister in-law Janet Zack, brother in-law, Lee Molyneaux; nephew, Lee (Shannon) Molyneaux Jr. and nieces, Ami Molyneaux, Jen (Gary) Hoover, Julie (Rick) Curtis and many family and friends.

Relatives and friends may call on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 3:00 to 7:00pm at Christ Church United Methodist, 54 Bay St. Glens Falls, NY 12804.

A funeral service filled with memories and music will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11:00am at the same location, Christ Church United Methodist.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the incredible staff at the Glens Falls Hospital, especially the doctors, nurses, and surgeons of the Cardiac ICU unit, as well as all those that have shared their beautiful memories and love for Nancy.

As if Nancy had not already given so much to everyone she met, her final gift was the gift of life through organ donation. This act will remain one of the moments her family is most proud of when remembering their Nanni.
