Obituary

Nancy (Bowman) Newbern, 66, of Queensbury, passed away at Mid Hudson Regional Hospital on April 11, 2026.

She was born in 1959 to Carol Louise Newbern and Edward Bovee, both of Lake Luzerne; and raised by parents Edith and John Bowman in Lake George from the age of six months. She was a 1977 graduate of Lake George High School, and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Liberal Arts from Adirondack Community College. Before her retirement, Nancy was employed at Glens Falls Hospital and previously worked for local newspaper The Post Star.

Throughout her life, Nancy found great joy in music, animals and nature. She cared for countless cats in her lifetime but especially cherished her dogs Spot and Abby. She lived on Lake Sunnyside, a place she loved dearly, for many years. Nancy was blessed enough to visit Hawaii a few times and emersed herself in the beauty and culture of the islands. She enjoyed singing and had a lovely voice. She also loved making art with several different mediums and had a very unique, creative style. She was gentle, curious, whimsical, adventurous, quirky and progressive.

Nancy was preceded in death by her birth and adoptive parents; her aunts, Eleanore Bowman and Margaret Lucas; her brother, Daniel Rumpf; her cousin, Trish Taylor; and her beloved companion, Dave Brennan.

Survivors include daughter, Aspen Star Forman of Fort Edward; son, Tristan L. Verra of Lake George; brothers, Brian J. Bowman of Glen Lake and Lonnie Rumpf of Lake Luzerne; sister, Caroline Wright of Keaau, HI; cousins, Amy and Rosalie Smith of South Glens Falls, Cynthia Rockwell of Hadley, Heather Gardiner of Buffalo, and Avery Marshall of Utica; aunts, Lu Blanchard of Utica and Anita Dingman of Hadley; and many friends.

A memorial service to lay her ashes to rest will be held at The Pine View Cemetery on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her estate to help pay for services and continued expenses, or to Northway Animal Emergency Clinic in her honor.
