QUEENSBURY --- Nancy Lee (Matot) Olson, 82, died at Glens Falls Hospital on Friday, October 6, 2023, after a brief illness.
Born December 29, 1940, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Howard S. and Eleanor M. (Center) Matot.
Nancy graduated from Hudson Falls High School and went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Castleton University. Later, she earned her master's degree from SUNY Plattsburgh.
She married Daniel C. Olson on May 7, 1960, at the Hudson Falls Methodist Church.
In her early years, Nancy worked as an English teacher. She then went on to join the Warren County Department of Social Services, rising to the level of Supervisor of Child Protective Services and later Director of Staff Development and Training until her retirement in 1999.
Nancy looked forward to annual family trips including camping at Fish Creek ponds and visiting Wells Beach, Maine. She had a variety of hobbies including reading, bird watching, and doing crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed spending time with friends, going out to eat, and discussing current events. Most of all, she loved celebrations of all kinds and any opportunity to spend time with her family and grandchildren.
She was active in church throughout her life and served as a Sunday school teacher at both the Zion Episcopal Church in Hudson Falls, and the Church of the Messiah in Glens Falls. Later, Nancy became a proud member of the Order of the Daughters of the King.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Daniel C. Olson, and grandson, Henry D. Olson.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Jeffrey D. (Sarae) Olson of Queensbury, Lisa N. (H. John) Hendley of Queensbury, and Daniel H. (Colleen) Olson of Saranac Lake; grandchildren, Elisabeth A. and Abigayle S. Olson, and Laura G. Hendley, all of Queensbury; great-grandchild, Olivia S. Mattison; brother, David Matot of Thailand; and aunt, Shirley Center of Ballston Spa; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will take place Friday, October 13 from 10 am to 12 pm at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.
A memorial service will follow at Church of the Messiah in Glens Falls with the Rev. Jean DeVaty officiating.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Glens Falls Hospital; specifically, to Dr. Glocka in the Emergency Room and nurses Jenn and Tristian for providing excellent care and compassion to Nancy and her family.
