QUEENSBURY --- It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Nora C. (Mattison) Phillips Stark, 95, at Fort Hudson Nursing Center on Monday, January 11, 2021
Born in Fort Ann on July 15, 1925, she was the daughter of James and Gertrude (Robinson) Mattison.
She graduated Class of 1944 from Fort Ann High School. She worked at Glens Falls Insurance Co., Local Insurance Co. of Fort Edward, and Union Camp Corp. on Pruyn Island, Glens Falls. She also modelled for Suttons Market Place in Queensbury for 20 years, and even had the opportunity to fly an airplane. At one time, she owned and operated a farm in Hudson Falls with her first husband.
She was a member of the Harrisena Community Church in Queensbury, and the Jane McCrea Garden Club of Fort Edward.
Some of her enjoyments included china painting, word finding books, baking cakes for special occasions, walking, flowers, birds, and stenciling. She loved spending time with her family; her family was her medicine.
She married Martin Phillips in 1944. They were married until his passing in 1972. Her second husband, Herbert Starks died in 1994.
In addition to her parents and two husbands, Nora was predeceased by a son, Martin H. Phillips of Glens Falls, six brothers, Herbert, Edward, Harland, Alfred, Kenneth, and Charles Mattison, two sisters, Nellie Jakway and Edna Morgan; a granddaughter, Traci Fayette.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Patricia) Leroux of Queensbury; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; also several nieces, nephews, cousins, and one dog, Hannah.
Services will be private to the family.
A graveside ceremony will take place in the spring at St. Paul's Cemetery.
