Norma J.
Malcolm
Jul 30, 1926 — Mar 8, 2018
QUEENSBURY --- Norma J. Malcolm, 91, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018 at home with her loving family by her side.
Born July 30, 1926 in Elmira, N.Y. she was the daughter of Earnest and Dorothy (Powers) Rhoades.
Mom "Nana" loved music, all kinds of music from Pavarotti to Earth Wind and Fire, to Tony Bennett, to Stephen Tyler's rendition of "Smile." She had a beautiful perfectly pitched alto voice that she shared while playing her piano or singing in choirs or just breaking out in song when a familiar lyric would pop up. She loved all her pets, most recently her sweet Dolly kitty. She and Grampa enjoyed traveling with their R.V., especially their cross country, 23 state trip in 1993. And then there were her Yankees and Price is Right (no appointments scheduled at that time) and Wheel of Fortune, no phone calls please! But the thing that meant the most to her was her family – all of them. Knowing that they were together, seeing them come through the front door, visits and hugs from the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren made her day. She looked forward to hearing about their achievements, their struggles and attending their special events – high school musicals, sporting events, weddings and graduations. She reminded them to find joy in the little things – hugs, laughter, a good cup of coffee with a glazed donut and most recently a big bite of a turkey and sharp provolone sandwich, washed down with a cold glass of milk, and being able to walk to the kitchen sink and get a big drink of water.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy and Earnest Rhoades, Norma was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Robert L. Malcolm.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Jackie (Peter) Dziedzic, and three sons, Jeff (Erin) Malcolm, Stephen (Bernice) Malcolm, and James (Sue) Malcolm; a 96 year old sister, June McClain; 8 grandchildren, Michael (Kristen) Dziedzic, Nicole (Steve) Tyo, Katie (John) Agresta, Michele (Shane) Granger-Castaldo, Griffin and Troy Malcolm, Ryan (Jasmine) Malcolm, and Jessica (Bill) Tokar; 12 great-grandchildren; Nathaniel, Madelynn, Andrew, Nora, Emery, Connor, Kloey, McKenzie, Hayden, Nadija, Audrey, and Erryn, who shares a birthday with Norma; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will take place Monday, March 12, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.
A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard Engert, High Peaks Hospice Chaplain, officiating.
Interment next to her husband will follow at Pine View Cemetery.
Many thanks to High Peaks Hospice, Above and Beyond Compassionate Care, Sherry, Sharon, and Laurie, Tower 3 at Glens Falls Hospital nursing and medical staff and Meals on Wheels for their kindness and compassion.
