BOLTON LANDING --- Owen W. Sherman Jr. died Feb. 19, 2013 at his home on New Vermont Road, with his loving family by his side. He was diagnosed with cancer in December of last year.
Born May 7, 1935, Owie was the son of the late Owen Sr. and Jennie (Burch) Sherman.
He married Fay Davis on Sep. 24, 1955 at the First Baptist Church of Warrensburg.
He was a building contractor for over 40 years, constructing many homes in the north country. One of his favorite pastimes was traveling. He enjoyed going to Wells, Maine with his wife each September to celebrate their anniversary. Also, in March, they would go to Florida and stay with close friends, Bill and Pidy Carboy of Summerfield, Fla. and Howie and Joann Kittelstad in Crystal River, Fla. Owie looked forward to his frequent visits from friends and neighbors, especially Bob Burns and "Dr." Steve Martyniak who stopped by faithfully to check on him.
Owen is survived by his wife of 57 years, Fay Sherman of Bolton Landing; three sons, William Sherman of Bolton Landing, David Sherman and his wife, Lynn, of Moon Township, Penn., Owen P. "Opie" Sherman and Shelley Steves of Bolton Landing, a longtime friend, who Owie thought of as a daughter; also four grandsons, William Jr., Thomas, Daniel, and Timothy and one "favorite" granddaughter, Alison. He is also survived by one aunt, Mary Hammond of Longwood, Fla.; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Friends may call upon the family Saturday, Feb. 23, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.
A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Lee B. Call, pastor of Faith Baptist Church of Warrensburg, officiating.
Burial will take place at Bolton Rural Cemetery at a date to be announced in the spring.
