Obituary

QUEENSBURY — Patrick E. "Packy" Kennelly, 86, of Meadow Drive in Queensbury, passed away peacefully Thursday morning July 3, 2014, at Fort Hudson Nursing Home, after a long illness.

Born Sept. 20, 1927, in South Orange, New Jersey, he was the son of the late William F. and Mary (Morrison) Kennelly.

He married Marjorie S. Brown on Oct. 18, 1958. She predeceased him Aug. 27, 2009. They lived in East Hanover, New Jersey, until moving to Granville in 1973, and finally to Queensbury in 1994.

Before moving to Granville, he was employed at South Orange and Maplewood schools and Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. He retired from Granville Central School in 1990. He then spent his retirement years doing odd jobs and taking care of his home and family. He was only happy when he was busy working on a project.

He was a devoted husband, father and "Poppy." He took wonderful care of his family, never wanting his girls to lift a finger.

He took extra special care of his loving wife during her long illness.

He was happiest spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter. He was passionate about Notre Dame football. They now have another angel in heaven to help them win a national championship.

He was a founding member of Granville Syndicate and enjoyed its weekly meetings. He was honored to be a long-standing member of Hook and Ladder Fire Department. He and his daughter enjoyed running the Fish Pond for more than 20 years at the Granville Carnival. He continued to do it even after moving to Queensbury.

Besides his parents, Patrick was predeceased by one brother, William J. Kennelly, who passed away in 1999; and his loving wife, Marjorie, who passed away in 2009.

Survivors include his daughter, MaryBeth Kennelly, and granddaughter, Nora Elizabeth Kennelly, whom he loved to call "Ripper" or "Chicken Head," both of Queensbury. He is also survived by a very special nephew, Timothy Brown, whom he thought of as a son, also of Queensbury. He will be lovingly remembered by several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Friends may call upon the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 7, at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.

Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, at the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph Busch, pastor of Church of Our Lady of The Annunciation in Queensbury, officiating. Bagpipes will be performed by Jerry Cashion.

Burial with military honors will follow at Glens Falls Cemetery, Bay Street, Glens Falls.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy make take the form of a donation, in loving memory of Pat, to Glens Falls Medical Mission, P.O. Box 627, Glens Falls, NY 12801, which provides medical services to Guatemala, the country from which his granddaughter was adopted.

Condolences may be mailed to Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804, or e-mailed through www.bakerfuneralhome.com.
