Obituary

GLENS FALLS --- Paula Jean (Kelly) Battease, 63, passed away at Albany Medical Center on Saturday, September 23, 2023, unexpectedly.

Born July 7, 1960, in Ticonderoga, N.Y., she was the sixth and final child of Geraldine Harriet (Wilkie) Kelly and Arthur L. Kelly Jr.

As a child, Paula enjoyed sitting with her sister Robin as she read her Boxcar Kids and Aladdin. Anytime she got with her siblings was very special to her.

To know Paula knew that she would do anything for anyone that she could. She loved her family and friends dearly but also the simple things like beer, cigarettes, and Honkytonk!

Some of her favorite things to do were antiquing, turning old furniture new, painting -as she was very talented, crafting beautiful gifts for family and friends as well as gambling. She loved taking trips with her friends; the ocean always brought her peace and joy.

If you asked her where she wanted to go, she would tell you one of three places, Peter's Pub, Sully's, or back then, the Daily Double. It was where she met some of her favorite people who became longtime friends and where she spent the best of times with her sister, Kathy.

Recently, she went to Saratoga Casino, and spent time with her son, Brad and his wife, Amanda. She played the penny machines and walked away with a little bit of money, and a huge smile on her face. That smile came back every time she told her friends and family of how much fun she had that day.

Along with her parents, Paula is predeceased by her brother, Arthur Kelly; sister, Patsy Kelly; her Gramma Kelly; Grandma and Grandpa Lavigne; and is finally reunited with Dan Sawn and their dog, Lexi, both whom she loved dearly; and her granddaughter, Annemarie Sawn.

Left to cherish her memory is her dear friend, Tommy Manney, who loved and cared for her deeply over the last few years; her sons, Brad (Amanda) Battease and  David Bailey, step children, Jessica Sawn, Sandra (Jeremy) Dickinson, and Daniel (Angela) Sawn; all of her grandchildren whom she adored; her thoughtful sisters, Helena Kelly, Kathy Kelly and Robin (Lance) McMaster; her best friend, Jean (Buddy) Blackmer, and their three children, Dan, Chris , Jacey; as well as her Aunts, Uncles, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and wonderful friends.

Services will take place at Baker Funeral Home on Thursday, September 28, from 12 – 12:45 p.m. with time to share memories at 12:45 p.m.

She will be laid to rest in Moriah Union Cemetery in Port Henry, N.Y. at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Glens Falls Fire Department , 134 Ridge St., Glens Falls, NY 12801, for all of your help and support over the years.
