Obituary

GLENS FALLS --- Polly V. Stevens, 80, of Ogden St., Glens Falls, passed away at 6:45 a.m., Friday, May 11, 2012, after a long illness.
Born August 25, 1931 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Charles M. and Amy (Young) VanTrump.
Polly graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1949 and married Robert C. Stevens in 1951. Her husband died on January 11, 1973.
Polly took care of many children for 10 years after her husband died and then went to work for the City of Glens Falls. She worked for 21 years as secretary in the assessor's office until she retired. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, liked reading the paper, doing crosswords and picture puzzles, going for walks and having lunch occasionally with her friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Stevens, brother Charles P. VanTrump, baby Mark Charles Stevens, sister Margaret Coffey, and brothers-in-law James Coffey, Gordon Stevens and Thomas Cronquist.
Survivors include her sister Susan Cronquist; six children: Robert P. Stevens and his wife, Linda, Jody Coffey and her companion, Bill Nolette, John M. Stevens, Tamara S. Stevens and her fiancée, Andy Scott, Matthew P. Stevens and his wife, Kerry, and Nancy Dittrich and her husband, Sean; also, sisters-in-law Rose Stevens and Joan Ludemann; ten grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on the family from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette Street, Queensbury.
A funeral service will follow immediately after at the funeral home, with the Rev. Phil Richards of Christ Church United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will take place at the Bay Street Cemetery in Glens Falls. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the nurses and staff at both the C. R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital and High Peaks Hospice, with a special thank you to Dr. John Stoutenburg whom she considered a special friend.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Polly may be made to C.R. Wood cancer center at Glens Falls Hospital, High Peaks Hospice of Warren County or Christ Church United Methodist on Bay Street in Glens Falls.
