GOUVERNEUR – Raymond C. Davis, a longtime resident of Fowler, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at the home of his daughter in Fort Ann, NY.
A graveside ceremony will be held Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1:30 p.m. in Jerusalem Cemetery, DeKalb, NY.
Mr. Davis was employed at Gouverneur Talc as a mill wright from 1965 until his retirement in 1987.
Born September 19, 1919, in Elmira, NY, a son of Franklin L. Davis and Vera Mae Blandin Davis, attending school in Waverly, NY. Mr. Davis entered the US Army in April 1945, serving 12 months overseas with the Signal Corps in Korea while holding the rank of Technician Fourth, leaving the service November 1946.
He married Marion Stacy on December 4, 1946 at her parents' home with the Rev. Joseph A. Schofield officiating. Mrs. Davis passed away February 28, 2008.
Mr. Davis enjoyed his family, time around the homestead, working on his inventions, reading, shooting his guns and making his famous baskets.
Surviving him are a daughter and her husband, Barbara and Randy Besaw, Fort Ann, NY; five sons and their wives, William C. and Rita, Wendell, NC, Robert C. and Peggy, Gouverneur, NY, Victor L. and Lorraine, North Syracuse, NY, Charles E. and Vergie, Blountville, TN and Lawrence R. and Ida Leigh, Liverpool, NY; a brother Clinton, Waverly, NY; a sister Idalene, Russell, NY; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Brothers, Bert, Richard and Frank Jr. and Sisters Betty and Doris died before him.
Mr. Davis' family would like to thank the members of High Peaks Hospice and Palliative Care for their kindness, care and support during his last days.
