Obituary

QUEENSBURY --- Raymond "Buzz" H. Hubert, 77 of Queensbury, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family and under the care of High Peaks Hospice.

He was born March 1, 1937 in Queensbury, the son of Raymond and Victoria Hubert.

He graduated from Fort Edward High School in 1955 and was a standout performer on the Flying Forts (aka "The Eleven Iron Men") Northern Conference Championship football team in 1954.

He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1957 where he attained the rank of Airman First Class and was assigned to the 1966th Airways and Communications Service Squadron. He served for two years in Alaska and Minot, ND. Raymond was named "Top Athlete of the Year in 1959" for the Minot Air Force Base. He was one of the top tennis players on the 29th Air Division team. He was also the base boxing coach and was one of the top amateur boxers in the Minot area. In addition, he coached the AACS squadron football and baseball teams and played on all AACS intramural teams.

He met his wife of 54 years, Mary Ann Wentz, while on duty in Minot where they were married. After his honorable discharge, they returned to Queensbury to start their family and build their own home.

Raymond worked at Finch Pruyn as an electrician for 33 years and was a proud member of Local IBEW.

Raymond enjoyed the outdoors. He loved fishing and hunting and was a member of the Santanoni Sportmans Club. He was a creative cook, a Yankee baseball fan and took great pride in his garden, especially his raspberry patch.

He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Victoria Hubert and his infant son Jacob.

Raymond is survived by his wife Mary Ann and their six children: Maureen Lehet and husband Joe of Queensbury, Joseph Hubert of South Glens Falls, John Hubert and wife Willa of Stafford, VA, Kathy Hubert-Day of Cornelius, NC, Jim Hubert and wife Jennifer of Bolton Landing, Jason Hubert and wife Kristina of Queensbury; his sixteen grandchildren: Andrew Lehet of Malta, Anna Lehet of Chicago, IL, Alicen Hubert of NYC, Joseph, Calie, Mackenzie and Jacob Hubert of Queensbury, Bridget Hubert of Fort Edward, Bailee, Olivia and Maggie Hubert of Stafford, VA, Ila, Jace and Maelyn Hubert of Bolton Landing, Taylor and Nicole Day of Cornelius, NC; his brother David Hubert of Queensbury, and sister Karen Becker of Spencer, MA, and several nieces and nephews.

Raymond has requested no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17 at Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation, Aviation Rd., Queensbury, with the Rev. Joseph Busch officiating, followed by military honors.

A gathering will follow at the Church Parish Center.

Raymond and his family suggest that memorial donations be made to High Peaks Hospice, 79 Glenwood Ave., Second Floor, Queensbury, NY 12804.

The family wishes to give heartfelt thanks to their neighbors and friends for their support and especially to Raymond's brother David Hubert and Phil from High Peaks Hospice.
