Obituary

SARATOGA SPRINGS --- Reginald "Reggie" Harold Killmer II, 88, of Saratoga Springs passed away surrounded by family, after a brief illness, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at The Pines Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Glens Falls, New York. A beloved uncle, brother, and friend, Reggie will be remembered for his stories of worldly travels and celebrity encounters, lifelong friendships, and delicious cooking.

Born October 4, 1936, in Duchess County, NY, to Reginald & LuLu (Smith) Killmer, Reggie was the 4th of 8 children and a graduate of Arlington Highschool in Lagrangeville, New York. After high school, Reggie joined the U.S. Navy and served state side for a brief time. Always a lover of classic fashion and making friends with whatever stranger he met, Reggie worked for Nancy Shoes for over 20 years. When the company decided it was leaving New York and heading West, Reggie took them up on their offer to relocate to California where he met Frank and Richard, a couple who would become his lifelong friends.

During his time in California, Reggie left the retail shoe world and took a different path, turning to one of his greatest loves, cooking. Reggie began working as a chef at a restaurant in Hollywood, CA, called La Mesa. While working at La Mesa, Reggie encountered many of Hollywood's elite, even befriending a few. When he had his fulfillment of the West Coast life, Reggie returned home to Duchess County and began working for New York State OPWDD at their Wassic Developmental Center in Amenia and later transferred to Wilton Developmental Center in Wilton. Upon his retirement from the State, Reggie began the career he is best known for locally as an Antique Dealer. Reggie spent almost 20 years running Towpath Antiques in Fort Ann, NY where his love for Washington County began.

In his personal life, Reggie was most happy traveling and seeing the world. Reggie traveled to all the continental United States and even went to Hawaii a few times to visit his brother, Robert, but missed out on visiting Alaska with his dear friend, Veronique, due to the COVID Pandemic. Having traveled to most all of Europe, Reggie could tell you every restaurant visited and every meal he ate while abroad; his love for the kitchen never wavering. In addition to traveling, Reggie loved dinner parties with his friends, antiquing at garage sales and auctions with his sister, Anne, staying up to date on the latest films and TV shows, especially shows on BBC, and volunteering with the Washington County Historical Society where he would frequently be found running their booth at the Washington County Fair.

Reggie is survived by his brother, Tom Killmer (Nancy) of New Hampshire; many nieces and nephews, including his niece, Susan Hibbard (Larry) of Schroon Lake, and his niece and caretaker, who he lovingly referred to as "Nurse Rachet", Michele Morgan (Tony) of Wilton; many great-nieces and great-nephews, including Jessica Johnson (Steven) of South Glens Falls, and Josh Hibbard of Connecticut, both of which he shared a special relationship with. Reggie's most accomplishing title was being a great-great-uncle to his favorite "rugrats" Jacob, Logan, and Emily Johnson of South Glens Falls to whom he will always be known as "Unk".  In addition to his family, Reggie is survived by many friends, including Sally, Bill, Ben, Randy, Ken, Stephen, and his dearest friend, who he considered to be more like family, Veronique, and her sons, his "boys", Tao (Courtney), Robin (Meridith), Oliver (Cheralee), and Nicholas. His cat, Pluma, will miss his affection and all the treats he would give her.

Reggie was predeceased by his parents, Reginald and LuLu Killmer; sister, Helen Ferris; brothers, Fred, Robert, John, and Frank; and his younger sister, Anne Tierney, who he was especially close with. He was also predeceased by special friends, including Frank and Richard of California, and his dear friend, Johnny Woodard.

In lieu of flowers, Reggie's family encourages donations to the Washington County Historical Society or a local animal shelter in his name.

Per Reggie's request, there will be no services, but a private celebration of life will be held at a later date amongst Reggie's family and close friends.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff, especially the nurses and aides on Floor 2, and his caseworker, Erin, at The Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, for all of their wonderful care. We can never thank you enough for all you did for him during his short time there.

Reggie made a friend wherever he went and was always known for his shining blue eyes and infectious smile. Be kind and accepting of all of those you encounter, as that is what Unk did every day of his life. He will forever be known as everyone's favorite Uncle Reggie.
