Obituary

GLENS FALLS --- Richard L. Anderson, 80, of Stewart Ave., passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025.

Born November 17, 1944 at the Glens Falls Hospital, he was the son of the late Norman and Alma (Pratt) Anderson.

Richard worked at various jobs as a teenager, last being a farmer's helper until he was 17 years old. He joined the United States Navy on November 22, 1961 and retired as a DK1(E6) after over 24 years of active duty, retiring on May 31, 1986. He was stationed at various places, both shore and shipboard, last being USS Inchon LPH12 (Marine Corps) Transporter Helo. Richard did three tours of duty in South East Asia (Viet-Nam) all on shore support (no ships), two tours at camp Ten-Shaw Danang and one tour with MCB5.

Upon retiring from the Navy, Richard had various jobs trying to get accustomed to civilian life. Life is not the same on the outside world as it is in the military. "I'm speaking for all military. God bless all the men and women who serve today and beyond." He did small engine repair for overhead cranes for one and a half years, heavy equipment operator for six months, and worked at Finch Pruyn Paper as security for two and a half years. He worked at the U.S. Post Office for 90 days where he realized 'Not for me.' Richard even built modular homes for a year. Finally, Richard worked at Glens Falls National Bank for 10 years, where he eventually retired for the second time.

Richard loved camping, Tuesday Night Pool League (VFW), darts in his Florida winter home, four wheeling in the summer, taking day trips with Linda to see things of interest, going to garage sales, and most of all going to Turning Stone Casino once in a while.

Richard's wishes were to drive to Alaska, via the Queen's Highway, and see some of the U.S. that he had never seen. "Not too many Navy ships in the middle of the U.S., Ha Ha!

Richard was a life member of Glens Falls V.F.W. Post No. 2475, and a life member of Hudson Falls American Legion Post No. 574.

Richard was married to Karen A. Tucker of Hudson Falls. Together they had four children, Belinda, Daphene, Kevin, and Tanya. Richard's second marriage was to Donna J. Scott of Pennsylvania and they had one child together, Ryan Anderson.

In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his second wife, Donna J. Scott; his daughter, Daphene L. Combs; his sister, Martha Anderson; and his grandson, Kevin Jay Anderson Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory are his greatest companion and best friend, Linda L. Benway of Glens Falls; his children, Belinda J. (Walter) Davenport of S.C., Kevin L. (Amanda) Anderson of Fla., Tanya M. (Michael) Ragain of MO, and Ryan (Lisa) Anderson of Hudson Falls, NY; his 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Olen Anderson of Glens Falls, and Norma Hamelin of SGF; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, uncles, and aunts; and a special Uncle, Eugene Pratt of Queensbury, NY.
