Obituary

Richard E. Bailey, 87, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2025, due to complications from cancer.

Born April 16, 1938, in Hudson Falls, he was the son of Harold and Helen Bailey.

Dick grew up in and attended high school in Hudson Falls. He was a "B" student who loved sports. He played football and basketball and ran track. When he graduated in 1956, he held individual school records in football, basketball, and track. After graduation, Dick worked for General Electric and was drafted in 1959 into the Army.

Following boot camp, he was sent to Germany from 1959 to 1961. Dick was stationed in Erlanger and assigned to Headquarters Co. While in Germany, he played Division Football and was named an All-Star and received a scholarship to Arizona State. After his military service, he was employed at Capital Finance for 3 years in 1969 through their training program. Dick spent 21 years earning V.P. status, and left to join Trustco Bank, opening their first office in Glens Falls. He was an officer for 10 years at Trustco until he retired. After retirement, he was hired as a Business Development Officer at Troy Savings Bank, where he worked for 5 years until he retired.

In 1963, he fell in love with Elizabeth Scannel and was married in St Michael's Church. They were blessed with 3 children, Michael Bailey, Bridget Girard, and Tim Bailey, who they loved very much.

Dick was very involved in sports, he was a 45-year member of The Adirondack Football Chapter and was part President/Secretary. He was named to the Capital District Football Chapter Hall of Fame. In 1997, he was chosen to referee the Double A finals in the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.

Dick was also President of Board 36 Basketball Chapter in Albany, and officiated the 1983 B finals in the Civic Center. The Chapter honored Dick with a plaque into The Basketball Hall of Fame.

Dick and Elizabeth were proud to have beautiful grandchildren, Lee, and Quinn Girard, Brooke and Amber Bailey who they cherished very much; and a great grandchild, Vivian.

In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elizabeth in 2014; son, Michael in 2023; and brother, Bob Bailey.

Visitation will take place Tuesday, December 16, 2025 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael's Church, 80 Saratoga Ave, South Glens Falls, NY 12803, with the Rev. Tony Childs officiating on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 11 a.m. with a luncheon to follow.

A graveside ceremony with military honors will be held in the spring at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

Dick was blessed to live a great life and had special friends, Pat Ciazzo and John Kelleher who took him to all his Albany appointments, Mike Cronin, Lou Varney, Tom Kirkpatrick, Joe Murphy, Jack Toney, brother and sister in law William and Sue Hayes, and many others including special friend, Kathy Toomey. And MANY OTHERS!
