Obituary

MARYLAND --- Our much beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Dr. Richard Eugene Miller, D.V.M., formerly of Fayetteville, Penn., passed away on December 3, 2014 at the age of 87.



He leaves his wife of 63 years, Margaret (Fox) Miller; his sons, Richard Keith Miller and Jeffrey Michael Miller; his daughters, Jacquelyn Miller Lumsden, Stacey Miller Eicks, and Tracey Miller Vasey; his sister, Louise Miller Garrison; and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Robin Michelle Miller and youngest son, Timothy Marland Miller.



Born on February 2, 1927 in Ridgefield, New Jersey, the son of William Morton and Catherine Elizabeth (Shotts) Miller, he and his twin brother, Robert Douglas Miller, spent their early years working the family dairy farm and developing an interest in animal care.



After graduating from Wallkill High School in 1944 where he met his wife, Margaret Anne Fox, he attended Hope College and Cornell University, graduating from Cornell in 1954 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Richard and Margaret were married in 1951 at New Hurley Reformed Church in Wallkill New York. In 1956, he opened his first Veterinary Practice in Fort Plain, New York.



After completing his Masters Degree and teaching Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University in 1969, "Dr. Dick" returned to caring for large and small animals in practice with his brother Robert Miller ("Dr. Bob") at Adirondack Animal Hospital in Glens Falls, New York. Dr. Miller also carried out veterinary pharmaceutical research with the Food and Drug Administration in Washington D.C. in 1974 and with Philips Roxane in St. Joseph, Missouri. He not only took pride in providing dedicated service to his many customers, farmers and pets large and small, he provided loving steadfast care to his wife, children and many extended family members.



Richard Miller will be missed by all of those whom he touched and who loved him dearly.



Calling hours will take place Tuesday, December 9, from 10 a.m. to noon at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.



A funeral service follow at noon at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Barclay, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, officiating.



Burial will follow at Pine View Cemetery, Quaker Rd., Queensbury.



A gathering to celebrate his life will follow at his nephew's Adirondack Sports Complex, 326 Upper Sherman Ave., Queensbury.
