Rita Marie
Wolfe
Feb 4, 1922 — Feb 14, 2018
QUEENSBURY --- Rita Marie Wolfe, 96, of Queensbury, was reunited with her husband on Valentines Day, February 14, 2018. She passed away following a brief illness at the home of her daughter and son-in-law surrounded by her loving family.
Born February 4, 1922, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of Hyacinth and Mary Ann (McCann) Le Blanc. As a teen, Rita moved with her family to East Hoosick Falls, NY where they purchased and operated a farm. Rita completed her high school courses at the local high school, including a course in agriculture in which she was the only female on the class roster. She was a graduate of Hoosick Falls High School, class of 1939.
On June 20, 1940, Rita married the love of her life, John Carl Wolfe at Immaculate Conception Church. The couple was blessed with three children, one girl and twin boys, and were married for 23 years before John Carl passed away on May 29, 1963.
Rita was a warm, caring person who spent her life helping others. Before opening and operating an adult home in Hartford, NY at age 76, Rita's commitment to helping others led her on an adventure that touched many lives. She began as a nurse's aide at Cambridge Hospital. Later, she became a school "bus driver," transporting disabled children to and from Fort Edward schools in her own personal vehicle. Eventually, Rita began working in the homes of the elderly and ill, providing care and companionship to many.
Rita traveled extensively over the years. Sometimes her work inspired her journeys; sometimes they were inspired by her sheer desire to see the world. She traveled to Florida, Hawaii, New Zealand, Germany, Philippines, and many other places. She was fast to make friends with people from all walks of life, striking up conversations with the people she encountered, often forging new friendships that would be lifelong. Rita captivated her friends and family with the many stories of her travels; sharing her experiences with others brought her great joy. She especially enjoyed time shared with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a laugh that warmed hearts and a zest for life that will be sorely missed.
In addition to her parents, Rita was predeceased by her husband, John Carl Wolfe who died of illness at age 50; grandson, Christopher Wolfe; three sisters, Goldie, Eileen, and Leota; and two brothers, Vincent and Clarence.
Those left to cherish her memory are three children, Patricia (Duane) Taylor, Peter (Nancy) Wolfe, Paul (Penny) Wolfe; grandchildren, Gretchen Taylor, Greg (Noreen) Taylor, John (Marjorie) Taylor, Joseph (Christina) Taylor, Duane (Debbie) Taylor, Stephen Wolfe, Kristen Wolfe, Ryan (Meg) Wolfe, Lauren Wolfe (fiancé Jeffrey Viele), David Wolfe (fiancée Laura Ronan), Heidi Wolfe, and Shannon Smith; great-grandchildren, Greg, Adriene, Dylan (companion Ally Howard), Erika (fiancé Corey Maurer), Justine, Christopher (Katelyn Taylor), Aidan, and Maya Taylor, Sarah and Sophia Smith, and Payton and Rowen Wolfe; great-great-grandchildren, Natalie, Jackson, Charleigh, and Brysen Taylor; also several nieces and nephews.
