QUEENSBURY --- Robert T. "Bob" Wescott Sr., 71, of Aviation Rd., Queensbury, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012 at Glens Falls Hospital, with family and friends by his side.
Born Jan. 2, 1941 in Lake Placid, he was the son of the late Guy George Wescott Sr. and Alta (Taylor).
Bob was incredibly involved in his community. He was a member of West Glens Falls Fire where he served as past line officer, working his way to fire chief, and Queensbury Central holding every board officer position including president. He was also a member of Hudson-Mohawk Vol. Firefighter's Assoc., Hudson Valley Vol. Firemen's Assoc. where he served as past President, and was part of both FASNY "Youth in Fire Service" and "Independent Fire Co.'s" committees, as well as a board member of the FASNY Museum. Bob was also a very involved member with Assoc. of NYS Fire Police, Washington and Saratoga Fire Police, NYS Fire Chaplains, Washington and Albany County VFA, NYS Firemen's Assoc., Lower Adirondack Firemen's Assoc., Hudson Board of Directors FASNY Firemen's Home, and an instructor for Fireman's Assoc. in NY. He retired as foreman from the Town of Queensbury Highway Dept. in 2006 after many years of dedicated service.
Bob enlisted in the United States Navy in 1962, being honorably discharged in 1970. He was a member of the Navy Seabees for 9 years, and VFW Post No. 6196. Bob was involved in Red Vests, Blue Vests, Knight Hawks, Saugerties Exempt, and Ladies Auxiliaries. He was also an off ice hockey official for the AHL & UHL, as well as parade organizer for the joint Glens Falls / Queensbury Memorial Day Committee.
Bob was proud of his work restoring an old 1957 Fire truck. He was a fan of the NY Giants, NY Rangers, and the LA Dodgers. He enjoyed spending time with his cocker spaniel dog, Mollie.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by a sister Joyce Hill and her daughter, Christine.
Survivors include his longtime companion, Linda LaRock of Queensbury, her son, John Wood and his wife, Stephani, and their daughter, Jace, all of Texas; his son, Robert T. "Rob" Wescott Jr. and his wife, Kara, of Hudson Falls; three granddaughters, Taylor, Jessica, and Hannah; four sisters, Alta Klimmer of Florida, Mary Fran Merrill, Shirley Seney and her husband, Earl "Bucky", and Dorice Torrence, all of Lake Placid; two brothers, Guy Wescott Jr. and his wife, Ruthie, and Alton Wescott and his wife, Sheila, all of Lake Placid; his former wife of 45 years, Olivia L Wescott of Queensbury; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and dear friends, with special mention of a very close niece, Elaine Raymond and her husband, Robert, of Queensbury and their two children, Courtney of Conn., and Derek of Tenn.; also his loving pet dog, Mollie.
Friends may call upon the family Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 12 to 2 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury. There will be brief firemen's ceremonies at 5:30 p.m. during the calling hours.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. at Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation, 448 Aviation Rd., Queensbury.
Interment, with military honors, will follow at Pine View Cemetery, Quaker Rd., Queensbury.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Bob's life will follow at Queensbury Central Fire Co. on Lafayette St.
