Obituary

GLEN LAKE ¬ Robert C. Hay, Jr., age 86, passed away peacefully, Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Fort Hudson Health Systems with family by his side.

Born in Lebanon, N.H. on June 14, 1930, he was the son of the late Robert and Josephine Hay. He was the oldest of five children and took that responsibility proudly. He grew up in Glen Lake and resided there his whole life. He was always there for his family, caring for his mother and ill sister, Gloria, whom he lived with.

Bob was a member of the Local Bricklayer Union No. 64 for 20 years and for many years a sole proprietor bricklayer and mason with his brother, David Hay.

He served in the National Guard for 10 years.

He was also a member of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Queensbury since 1979. He was a Boy Scout Master for numerous years. Bob was an avid gardener and was often said to have more than one green thumb, his back and front lawns were always full of beautiful flowers and a plentiful garden and trees. He loved to walk his dog along Ash Drive Road and was pleasant to all his neighbors.

He was especially close to his niece and caretaker, Dawn Hlavaty Starratt (Greg), and their children Shannon and Bobby Starratt. He raised Dawn with her mother Gloria from age of 4 and continued to enjoy Dawn's children as they grew up. He was a wonderful uncle to all his nieces and nephews. He was very proud to have a great ¬nephew named after, Robert Chesley Starratt born 07/05/07.

He enjoyed watching Robert & Shannon after school and their many sporting events. He was more a wonderful "grandfather" to them than uncle, as he shared meals with them all daily and vacations and lived next door to them. He loved traveling to Maine to the ocean. He loved to deer hunt with his nephews Michael and Jeff Hay many years in the Adirondacks. He loved spending time with his friends, siblings, nieces and nephews and life time girlfriend Mildred Reid of Hartford, NY.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, David Hay and sister, Gloria Hay-Hlavaty both of Glen Lake and two brothers-in-law, David Barrows of Lake Luzerne and Clifford Gunther of Lake George.

Those left to cherish his memory are his lifetime girlfriend, Mildred Reid; his niece, Dawn (Greg) Hlavaty Starratt and their children, Shannon and Bobby Starratt; two sisters, Eleanor Hay Barrows and Helen (Richard) Stutzenstein; sister¬in¬law, Patricia Hay; also nieces and nephews include, Michael (Lori) Hay, Jeff Hay (Kim Monroe), Scott and Christopher Gunther, Richard (Cindy) Barrows, William Barrows, Kenneth (Julie) Barrows, Patricia Hawley, Victoria (David) Mankad; as well as several great- nieces and nephews; his wonderful friends, Tony Stanco and Skip Finnegan, Russell Hilliard, and all the wonderful church members who visited weekly.

Calling hours will take place from 11a.m. to 12p.m. on Saturday, August 6 at The Church of Latter-day Saints, Queensbury, NY.

A funeral service will immediately follow with Nate White officiating.

Burial will take place after the services at the Bay Street Cemetery.
