QUEENSBURY--- Robert F. Mahar, 84, of Queensbury, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013, at Glens Falls Hospital, following a long illness.
Born July 6, 1928, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Thomas F. Mahar and Mina Mahar Vieley.
Bob attended local schools and was in the Merchant Marines during World War II, and honorably discharged in 1946.
Bob worked in many local plants including National Biscuet, Union Camp, and Chase Bag.
He liked having his own trucks and doing odd jobs with them.
To all that knew him he was honest, truthful, and reliable.
Bob married Joan Gilson in 1947, in Truthville, N.Y., and in the 1960's they built their own home in Queensbury and resided there for over 40 years.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by an infant son, Michael F. Mahar, two sisters, Lillian McCotter and Kathrine Ryan, one brother, Thomas M. Mahar, a step-brother, Ralph Vieley, and step-sister, Lois Smith.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Joan; two daughters, Margaret Mahar and Julie Batchelder; two sons, Robert Mahar and Thomas Mahar; a sister, Shirley Belder of Chelmsford, M.A.; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
At his request, there will be no calling hours and the burial will take place at Bay St. cemetery in Glens Falls, on Saturday, July 20 at 10 am, with Rev. Nancy Goff.
