UPDATED FUNERAL NOTICE:

A graveside service with military honors will take place Friday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at Gerald B. H. Solomon National Cemetery.

A gathering to follow will be announced at the graveside service.





QUEENSBURY --- Robert E. Wocell, 81, of West Mountain Road, Queensbury, N.Y. passed away Sunday, April 24 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born August 5, 1934 in Cambridge, N.Y. he was the son of the late Charles and Esther (Strunk) Wocell.

He graduated from Cambridge Central School, Class of 1952. Bob excelled in athletics, especially as a running back, and won many medals in track, and his senior year was a member of the undefeated baseball team in 1952. (10-0)

Bob enlisted in the Navy after graduation in 1952 and retired after 30 years as a Master Chief Petty Officer. During this time, he was deployed to Korea and Viet Nam and spent many long deployments to the Far East visiting ports in Hawaii, Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Native Islands, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong many times, Caribbean Islands, and Bermuda for exercises and training. He also was in Navy Recruiting on the West Coast, Admiral's Writer for Commander Cruiser Destroyer Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet and the Superintendent of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. He was assigned to Destroyer Tenders, Guided Missile Cruisers and Destroyers, Coastal and Ocean going Minesweepers and on the Admiral's Staff on ship and shore.

Bob enjoyed fishing on the Battenkill River, watching all sports on television and also enjoyed bowling.

In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by two sisters, Carolyn Sellers and Constance Wocell, and a brother, Neil Wocell.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Marie Wocell of Los Angeles, Calif. and granddaughter, Brooke McGowan, of San Francisco, Calif.; one sister, Barbara Luke of Salem, N.Y.; and a longtime companion, Nancy Carpio of Sacramento, Calif.

A graveside service, with military honors, will take place at a later date at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
