Obituary

GLENS FALLS -- Ruby Elizabeth (Alexander) Combs, 92, of Glens Falls, NY, passed away Friday morning, January 30, 2015, at Westmount Nursing Facility where she had been a resident for the last two years.

Born at home in Glens Falls on August 1, 1922, she was the daughter of Marion (Underhill) Alexander and Orlie Alexander.

Ruby was the valedictorian of the class of 1940, Glens Falls High School. Following graduation she was employed at the Glens Falls Insurance Company as the Executive Assistant for Harry Helm. Among her other duties, she was responsible for the newsletter which was sent to World War II military members who had been employed at the insurance company prior to their enlistment. After her marriage, she and her husband operated Combs Electric in Glens Falls for over forty years.

On July 29, 1945, she married Richard Milford Combs, son of Viola (Truesdale) Combs and Milford Martine Combs at Christ Church United Methodist in Glens Falls followed by a honeymoon in Montreal.

Ruby was a loving and warm Mom, grandmother and mother-in-law, who was revered by all of her family and friends. She had lived on Wing Street for 86 of her 92 years and enjoyed the companionship of her many neighbors throughout the years.

The consummate story teller, Ruby helped to connect all of her family and extended family by sharing her numerous letters with detailed descriptions of her life and the lives of her parents who grew up in the Kingsbury and Hartford, NY, areas.

She loved cooking, sewing and photography but her talent lay in her ability to paint photograph-quality landscapes as well as life-like portraits of her family members. Luckily, much of that ability has been passed down to several of her children and grandchildren.

Her warmth, love and sense of humor will live on in the hearts and souls of all who knew her.

Besides her parents and her beloved husband of 50 years, Richard Milford Combs, Ruby is pre-deceased by her sister, Ruth Marion Alexander Ingalsbe of Allentown, PA, and one nephew, Ralph Truman Ingalsbe of Whitehall, PA.

Survivors include her three children, Richard Alexander Combs, born February 14, 1947, and his wife Virginia (Eddy) Combs of Queensbury, NY; Kathryn Elizabeth Walter, born June 7, 1948, and her husband, Robert R. Walter of Queensbury, NY; Alan Truesdale Combs, born November 26, 1949 and his wife, Marie (LeClair) Combs of Whitehall, NY. In addition, she is survived by twelve grandchildren, Richard Alan Combs of Queensbury, NY; Suzanne Elizabeth (Combs) Plankey and her husband Michael of Westford, MA; Michelle Elaine (Combs) Sanders and her husband, Jeffrey of Falls Church, VA.; Amy Elizabeth (Stutzenstein) Wagner of Glens Falls, NY; Sara Elizabeth (Stutzenstein) Cicero and her husband Giancarlo of Atlanta, GA; Heather Lee(Stutzenstein) Rotunno and her husband Dominic of Toledo, OH; Paul Stutzenstein and his wife Melanie of Toledo, OH; Carrie Elizabeth (Combs) Java and her husband Derek of Queensbury, NY; Alan Richard Vecchio and his wife Kristy of Queensbury, NY; Shelley Marie (Combs) Morrissey and her husband Mark of Queensbury, NY; Stephanie Kay Combs of Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, England, and Stephen Christopher Combs of Portland, OR; 18 Great-Grandchildren; two nephews, Bruce Ingalsbe and his wife Mary of Hummelstown, PA; and Kevin Ingalsbe and his wife Barb of Emmaus, PA as well as the widow of his deceased nephew, Terry Ingalsbe of Whitehall, PA; and cousins including Bill Underhill of Clifton Park, NY and Susan Alexander Hogan of Pelham, NH.
