Obituary

Ruth Iona (Monroe) Keith, 85, of Glens Falls, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's and dementia.

Born in Warrensburg, New York, Ruth attended Warrensburg High School and worked for many years at the Troy Shirt Factory and Bard. She married the love of her life, Edwin Harvey Keith, and together they created a home where love and family were everything.

Ruth's heart belonged to her family. She poured love into everything she did—cooking meals that brought everyone together, tending to her garden with unmatched care, and cherishing every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. She knew the name of every flower in her garden and could tell you exactly where each one came from. Her garden was not only beautiful—it was a living memory of the people and moments she held dear. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and joy, and no one could make Rice Krispie Treats quite like Ruth—they were legendary among her grandchildren and a staple at every family gathering. Holidays spent together were especially cherished; she made each one feel magical with her warmth, and the simple joy of being surrounded by loved ones.

She is survived by her sons, Kevin Keith of Glens Falls and James Keith of Queensbury, and by her many beloved grandchildren who were the light of her life, as well as her cat, Stewart. Ruth is predeceased by her husband, Edwin; her children, Julie Keith, Renee Phillips, and Jody Keith; and her grandson, Stephen Stout.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Melody Mulcahy, Konnor Keith, and Tammy Keith. Melody took the very best care of Ruth while she was at home and we are forever grateful for the love, laughs, and joy she brought Ruth each day. Konnor was the apple of Ruth's eye, and the bond they shared was immeasurable. Konnor spent every minute he could taking care of his grandmother, especially as her illness progressed. She would light up as soon as he stepped through the door, and she never wanted him to leave. Tammy held Ruth's hand, staying right by her side, through her final days. She loved Tammy as her own, and no one could ever comfort Ruth quite like her.

A private memorial service for the family was held at Glens Falls Cemetery on April 9, 2025. Ruth was a quiet woman, who never wanted too much attention. Ruth's love was a steady light in the lives of those who knew her—a light that continues to shine in the hearts of her family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. We LOVE you bigger than the old barn door, Ruthie.
