GLENS FALLS – Ruth C. (Lopez) Hayes, 88, of Luzerne Rd., passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born Feb. 20, 1926 in Poultney, Vt., she was the daughter of Paul Lopez Sr. and Maude (Rolland) Lopez.
A graduate of Whitehall School, Ruth was a homemaker and spent a lot of her time enjoying family gatherings. For many years, Ruth was a member of Glens Falls Salvation Army, including the Ladies Home League Program, and she enjoyed helping with the children's programs. She loved listening to country music and was a member of several fan clubs, including RGLB Westenders, New Country, and Northeast Country Music Entertainers. She was also a member of both Queensbury V.F.W. Post No. 6196 and Queensbury American Legion Ladies Auxiliaries.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by a brother, Paul Lopez, sister, Grace Lopez, granddaughter, Stephanie Breault, and nephew, Mike Lopez.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 68 years, Willie Hayes; their five children, Paul (Marge) Hayes, Shirley Ogden and close friend, Tracy Pratt, Linda (Bruce) Breault, Charlie (Shelly) Hayes, and David Hayes and his friend, Beth Paquette, and Lynn Hayes; a brother, Manual Lopez; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and her loving dog, Smiley.
Calling hours will take place Tuesday, Feb. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. and again Wednesday, Feb. 4, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.
A funeral service will follow Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Ruth's granddaughter, Amanda Lumbila officiating.
A graveside service will take place Wednesday, May 6, at 10 a.m. at Morningside Cemetery, Hartford.
