Obituary

QUEENSBURY --- Sherlyn E. Hughes, 73, of Queensbury, NY, passed away on Tuesday, November 14 th , 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital with loved ones by her side.

She was born in Glens Falls, NY on February 18 th , 1944 and attended Glens Falls City Schools.

She met the love of her life, William J. Hughes Jr., in 1960 and they wed on November 24 th , 1962.  She passed just 10 days before their 55 th wedding anniversary.

Sherlyn was a homemaker and helped raise many children over the years.  She was always one to lend a listening ear and a loving hug.  She made an impact on so many people during her lifetime and is always remembered for her kindness and welcoming smile.  She was an active member of her church, a Girl Scout leader, a loving friend, and a wonderful mom to everyone who walked through her front door.  Sherlyn loved to read, crochet, cross-stitch, cook, and garden, but spending time with her family was her favorite pastime.  Sundays were spent attending the West Mountain Community Church and having Sunday dinners with her family.

She was predeceased by her parents, Noah Quarters and Marvette Moulton Quarters, her brothers Francis and Roger Quarters, and her sister Vonda Gatchell.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, William "Bill" J. Hughes Jr; three children and their spouses, Jina and Fred Smith, Rosalie and Gus Carayiannis, and William "Bill" J. Hughes III and his fiancée Linda Law; and her beloved grandchildren, Jaylyn and Andrew Bedard, Jessalie Smith and her boyfriend Mark Reichen, Katina Carayiannis, Emily Carayiannis, William J. Hughes IV, Lynsey Hughes, Jacob and Lauren Law, Jonathan Law and Justin Law.  She is also survived by her brother Arvin Quarters, his wife Nora, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will take place Saturday, Nov. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804, and also on Sunday, Nov. 19, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Flossie Gage Bates officiating.

Her family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Christopher Mason and the staff at the C.R. Wood Cancer Center of Glens Falls Hospital.  Also, a huge thank you to the nurses on T2, especially Colleen, Karen, Loren, and Kris; as well as all of the aides and nurses who were so kind and helpful during this journey.  We cannot express our gratitude enough to tell you all how much it meant to all of us.
