QUEENSBURY-Shirley M. Haskoor, 94, of The Warren Center, Queensbury, and formerly of Franklin Lakes, NJ, and Hawthorne, NJ passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital.
Born October 2, 1923 in Paterson, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (Sindle) Tompkins.
Shirley was a graduate of Eastside High School in Paterson, NJ.
On her 19th birthday, October 2, 1942, she married her high school sweetheart, Joseph Haskoor, on Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois, prior to him departing to serve his country during WWII.
For many years, Shirley was co- owner and operator of Joe Haskoor's Tire Wholesaler's in Hawthorne, NJ.
Her memberships included the Stella Chapter No. 20 Order of the Eastern Star in Clifton, NJ, and then after relocating to the Queensbury area in 2008, she became an active member at the Queensbury United Methodist Church. While in NJ she belonged to the Deborah Heart and Lung Foundation and volunteered at the Wayne General Hospital for many years.
She enjoyed playing Bingo with friends at the Warren Center and having daily coffee with Dick Derusha.
Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph Haskoor, of 47 years; a sister, Cecelia Ameye, and three brothers, William Quick, John Quick, and Tom Quick.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Taylor and her partner, Leroy Norton of Queensbury, and Danielle Weitz and her husband, Robert, of Franklin Lakes, NJ; two granddaughters, Lindsay Weitz also of Franklin Lakes, NJ, and Megan Taylor and her fiancé, Cherie Dicenzo, of Schenectady; two grandsons, Joseph Weitz and his wife, Carrie, of Albrightsville, PA, and Matthew C. Taylor of Queensbury; Seven great grandchildren; a brother, Donald F. Tompkins and his wife, Sadako of West Milford, NJ; several nieces and nephews. Other survivors include her special friends, Dick and Karen Derusha, Carol Herbert, Peggy Fitzpatrick, Mary Zoll, Dee Leickert, Pat Sullivan, Linda Rizzi, and Virginia Henry, just to name a few.
Friends are invited to join her family Wednesday, December 27, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. for visitation at the United Methodist Church, 460 Aviation Road, Queensbury.
A Celebration of her life will immediately follow at the church at 12 p.m. with the Rev. Phil Phaneuf, pastor, officiating.
No burial will take place at this time.
A luncheon will be provided at the church following the Celebration.
Because of her love for animals, donations may be made, in loving memory of Shirley, to SPCA of Upstate NY, 588 Queensbury Ave, Queensbury, NY 12804.
