Obituary

QUEENSBURY --- Shirley L. Mannis, 83, of Fourth St., passed away Friday, October 19, 2018 at Fort Hudson Nursing Center following a long illness.

Born January 14, 1935 in Madison township, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Frances (Field) Welles.

Shirley was a graduate of South Glens Falls High School as well as SUNY ACC.

She married William Mannis in 1979 in Fortsville United Methodist Church.

She retired as secretary to CEO of Glens Falls National Bank.

She was very proud of her award-winning flower garden at her home in Glens Falls. Some of her other enjoyments included hiking in the Adirondack high peak mountains, kayaking, especially on Hinderson Lake and the Battenkill River, and cross country skiing. She was a member of Adirondack Mountain Club, which she helped publish the newsletter for.

Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, William Mannis of Queensbury; two daughters, Connie (William) Weinman of Albany, and Susan Geschwentner of Denver, Colorado; step-children, Kevin (Stephanie) Mannis of Troy, Lisa (Tom) Murphy of Averill Park, N.Y.; grandchildren, Nik and Kelley Geschwentner, and Douglas (Jade) Woodard, all of Colorado; also step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a sister, Arlene Welles of Glens Falls; and many cousins in Pennsylvania.

The family will hold a private service for Shirley in the spring when they are able to get back together.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at Union Cemetery in Hudson Falls.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the wonderful caring nurses and staff at Fort Hudson Nursing Center A Wing.
