Obituary

QUEENSBURY --- Shirley Elaine Mitchell, 80, of Burke Dr., Queensbury, passed away at home March 25, 2015 with her loving family by her side. She fought a short and courageous battle with cancer.

Born May 14, 1934 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Charles and Marion (LaPointe) Fisher.

She married William J. Mitchell on Feb. 1, 1953 in Glens Falls and enjoyed 34 years of marriage until he passed away Sept. 24, 1987.

For 34 dedicated years, she worked for Woolworth until they closed. She loved being in charge of all the animals.

She was a member of The Church of the Messiah, where she sang in the choir until she no longer could. At one time, she was the Secretary of Treasure.

She was also a Republican Election inspector for Warren County for the past 20 years.

She had a special love for her four legged best friend, T.C. Monkey, who laid by her side until the end.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her three brothers, Ken Fisher, June Fisher, and Bill Fisher; one sister, Loraine King; two granddaughters, Nicole Lynn Mitchell and AmySue (Centerbar) Brewster; and two great-grandchildren, Autumn and Jaleena Mitchell.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, William J. Mitchell, Connie (Ernie) Centerbar, Danny (Shari) Mitchell, Michelle (Brian) Washburn, Susan (Bruce) Brookes, Tommy Mitchell (Angelique Hicks); 15 grandchildren that were the stars of her eyes and 20 great-grandchildren she loved to the moon and back; her brother, James Fisher; her three sisters-in-law, Barbra Fisher, Peg Fisher, and Ada Fisher who were always by her side; and several nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.

Calling hours will be held Monday, March 30, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.

A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Nancy Goff officiating.

Burial will take place at a time convenient to the family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Glens Falls Hospital Tower 2 as well as High Peaks Hospice, with a special thank you to Sue and Beth.
