QUEENSBURY - Shirley A. (Hall) Roach passed away Feb. 2, 2015 at home after a short illness.
The daughter of Helen Audrey (Rhodes) and Willard O. Hall, Shirley was born on Oct. 24, 1924 in Warrensburg and grew up in Lake George and Glens Falls. Shirley married William H. Roach on June 7, 1952 at Christ Church in Glens Falls. She was a charter member of the United Methodist Church of Queensbury, and, until physically unable to, always helped at church events.
Shirley loved her work at the Queensbury school district, where she retired in 2011 after 50 years of service. After retirement, Shirley looked forward to bi-monthly "out to breakfast" meetings with the retired ladies group.
A voracious reader, Shirley was known for often reading the last few pages of a book first in order to decide whether it was worth her time.
Besides her parents and husband, Shirley was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy M. Hafner and Winifred H. Messier and a sister-in-law, Mina M. Brown.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith L. Roach; nieces, Nancy J. Hafner and Jean M. (Ian) Williams; nephews, Robert H. (Kay) Hafner, Jay C. Brown, Jeffrey W. Brown, and Christopher C. Brown; as well as great-nieces Victoria E. Hafner and Alexandria S. Williams; and great-nephew, James D. Williams.
In keeping with Shirley's wishes there will be no calling hours.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Pine View Cemetery, Queensbury.
Those wishing to express the joy of Shirley's life are encouraged to donate to the United Methodist Church of Queensbury, 460 Aviation Road, Queensbury, NY 12804 or the Queensbury Community Scholarship Association, Inc., P.O. Box 4083, Queensbury, NY 12804 or the charity of one's choice.
