Obituary

QUEENSBURY - Shirley O. Stevens, 93, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the Glens Falls Hospital after a short illness.

Born on Oct. 16, 1923 in Ozone Park on Long Island and was the daughter of the late Harold and May (Cummins) Oldham.

Shirley graduated from Glens Falls High School.

She married John Dew and raised two sons, Michael and Stephen. After his passing, she married Roger D. Stevens and had a daughter Kathryn.

Shirley was a medical receptionist for 20 years for Dr. Schlesinger.

Shirley enjoyed many trips with family and friends. She has vacationed in Hawaii, England and took a cruise to Alaska. Shirley enjoyed winter vacations in Florida and fall trips to Maine. Shirley spent her summers on Glen Lake with her family.

Shirley enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing cards with friends. She was an avid reader. Shirley enjoyed knitting and outings with the Red Hats.

She was a member of the Glens Falls Hospital Guild and volunteered for Life Line for 12 years.

For many years, she worshiped at the Church of the Messiah then West Mountain Community Church and later in life, Harrisena Community Church.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, Shirley was predeceased by her sister, Edna Ackley and her lifetime friend, Doris Newton.

Left to cherish her memory, are her two sons, Michael Dew (Dana) of Denver and Stephen Dew (Cynthia) of Queensbury also one daughter Kathy Gwinup (Dan) of Queensbury; eight grandchildren Aaron Dew (Marissa), Taylor Dew, Garrett Dew, Jared Dew (Michele), Meghan Leary (Jerry), Mark Dew, Melissa Clark (Ben) and Shawn Gwinup; nine great-grandchildren, Alexander and Madeline Dew, Ivan Dew, Owen, Aislyn and Anna Leary, Mila Gwinup and Ava and Kerrigan Clark; also several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Calling hours will take place Saturday March 4, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.

A funeral service will follow at the funeral home with the Rev. Nancy Goff, officiating.

Burial will take place Friday, March 10, at 12:30 p.m. at Bay Street Cemetery.
