Obituary

Shirley J. Tucker, age 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Washington Center Nursing Home in Argyle. Born April 15, 1930, at home in Warrensburg, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Wood Sr. and Olga A. Krueger (Wood/LaVoy).

She graduated from South Glens Falls High School and worked for Imperial Paper, 12 years in the catalog department at Sears Roebuck & Co, several years at Johnston Hallmark and also worked at the Great Escape in the gift shop as a cashier.  Shirley enjoyed boating and waterskiing spending summer vacations on Lake George Islands camping with family friends, the Whitings', taking long rides in the mountains and family vacations to Maine.  A couple of favorite vacations were to the Canary Islands with friends and a trip to Maui with her daughter Cindy & husband, Jeff. Other activities included snowmobiling, bowling, knitting, crocheting, circle word puzzles, and playing bingo, shuffleboard, dominoes and card games with her friends at Cedars Senior Living Apartments. She loved line dancing with Kevin Richard's "_hit Kickers" and was part of a group trip, including her sister Doris and daughter Connie to Nashville to dance at the Wild Horse Saloon.  She was also an active member of the Queensbury VFW 6196 Auxiliary and served as treasurer for 12 years and president for one year making good lifetime friends.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Walter, of 14 years; her siblings, Lewis Wood Jr., Armenia Cap, Neil Wood, and Doris Morrissey; 2 sons, Craig Viele & Charles Viele; as well as her former husband, Lester Viele Jr. of 30 years.

Survivors include her daughters, Connie Miller (husband Jeff), Cindy Viele (husband Jeff Kendzierski) & Cathy Viele (wife of deceased son Charles); her grandchildren, Scott Beckwith (fiancée Kim Stewart), Chip Viele (Korina Jones), Jeremy Viele (Anita), Christina Kelsey (Shannon), and Genevieve Viele (Mike Gathier); her step grandson, Tim Woodard; also, several great and great-great children, nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to attend memorial services on Monday, November 6 at 1PM at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804, with the Rev. Patti Girard officiating.

Burial will follow at the Southside Cemetery, South Glens Falls.

In lieu of flowers, Shirley has asked that donations be made to Conkling Center, 79 Warren Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801 or the Glens Falls Association for the Blind, 144 Ridge Street, Glens Falls NY 12801.

The family would like to thank the staff and care givers at Countryside Adult Home in Warrensburg, and Washington Center Nursing Home in Argyle.
