Obituary

QUEENSBURY--- Steven Willard Stockman of Queensbury was called Home to be with the Lord on April 29, 2015 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Steve attended Queensbury High School and graduated from Calvary Christian School in 1979. He attended Bob Jones University before enlisting in 1983 in the US Air Force. Steve lived in Monterey, CA while attending Defense Language Institute at the Presidio, then San Angelo, TX for Cryptolinguist School. Steve served as a Cryptologic Linguist Specialist in Key West and remained in Florida after the service. He resumed his trade of carpentry and worked for many years in the Palm Beach area as a Foreman for Tylander Construction and Gold Coast Contractors. After graduation from Palm Beach Community College with a degree in Construction Technology, he continued to achieve a lifelong dream of building multi-million dollar homes as a Construction Superintendent with Palm Coast Builders, Addison Construction, BHD Construction and Tara Management. Many of the custom homes Steve built were featured in magazines such as Professional Builder, Palm Beach Magazine, Florida Architecture and Log Home Living. These homes were recognized by the South Florida Builders Association with 3 Prism Awards. Most recently in New York, Steve worked for RL Chase Builders, and as a Project Manager for Saratoga Builders. Steve loved to make people's dream home a reality.

Steve's lifelong hobby and passion was to be a race car driver. After practicing his driving skills all over Glens Falls and on I95 in Florida, he trained for and obtained his SCCA license to race in 2009. He competed in club racing at Homestead, Sebring and Palm Beach International before moving back to New York. In New York, Steve sought out racing opportunities and participated in Mohawk Hudson chapter SCCA events as well as joining the Adirondack Corvette Club, where he served as Vice President.

Steve was predeceased by his grandparents: Willard and Marion (Mosher) Stockman; Edward and Betty (Kinglsey) Threw, as well as an aunt, Rosemary Threw and cousin Ed Threw.

Steve is the son of Donald and Shirley (Threw) Stockman of Queensbury. He is survived by his parents, his brothers Randy (Ann) Stockman, Kevin (Sharon) Stockman, his uncles Gordon (Carol) Stockman, Everett (Eleanor) Stockman, William Threw and his niece Heather Abrahamson and nephews Niko Stockman, Kaleb Stockman and Kristopher Abrahamson. Steve also is survived by his beloved Christine Purdy, the reason Steve moved back to New York from Florida, as well as her son Iain Simmons, who was loved as the son Steve never had.

A Celebration of Steve's life will be Saturday May 9, at 11 a.m. at New Hope Community Church, Corinth Rd., Queensbury, with the Rev. Robbie Lankford, pastor, officiating.

A reception at the church will follow the service for friends and family to share stories and fellowship.

Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, Steve would prefer that his friends and acquaintances honor his memory with performing anonymous service for someone, or to make a donation to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
