HUDSON FALLS -- Thomas H. Archer, 85, after a long battle with diabetes and its complications, died peacefully at Washington Center on November 24, 2016.
Tom, born in Binghamton, NY on April 14, 1931, served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955, was the second son of Fred and Jennie (Berg) Archer.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Genevieve and Gertrude(Sis), and his brother, Fred Jr.
He is survived by his younger sister Laura, his nephew David, his cousin Donna, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Archer taught many area students animal anatomy, sculpture, and painting techniques for BOCES and ACC Enrichment classes for many years.
T. H. Archer was a sporting artist who was self-taught. He had some formal training in charcoals and pastels but enjoyed the detail that oil painting revealed. The renowned sporting sculptor from the Royal Academy, John R. Skeaping, was so impressed with T. H.'s work that he gave T. H. a scholarship to study under his tutorage in France. All sculptures T. H. did in France were sold! He was selected from seven painters for six commissions by H.R.H. Crown Prince Abdullah Faisal to paint the Arabian horses of the Royal Stud. T.H. was also commissioned by The National Museum of Racing, Saratoga, to paint the Max Hirsch Memorial which is in the museum's Permanent Collection. Many well-known thoroughbred racing families have paintings or pen & inks in their collections. The last showing of T. H.'s works were on display at Washington Center this past fall.
Also, mourning Tom's passing are his closest friends, Reverend Tom Babiuch, Dr. Margarethe McCurry, Mr. & Mrs. Michael Dashnaw, Mrs. Sheila Lohret, and the Robert Young family.
