Thomas
Meyer
Jul 28, 1948 — Apr 22, 2026
Thomas “Tommy” Henry Meyer passed away peacefully in the early morning of April 22, 2026, in Glens Falls, New York at the age of 77. He had been hospitalized for a serious heart condition and succumbed after a few weeks.
Born on July 28, 1948, in New York City, Tom grew up in Woodhaven, New York and attended St. Thomas the Apostle Elementary School before graduating from Archbishop Molloy High School in 1966. He went on to earn an accounting degree from Fordham University in 1970. Over the course of his professional life, Tom built a respected career as a bookkeeper, financial analyst, and consultant. In his later years, he used his extensive knowledge of the Lake George area to guide visitors at the Sagamore Hotel as a concierge.
Tom had an irreverent, sometimes ribald sense of humor, and a deep love of sports. He grew up playing baseball and softball and was an avid golfer from his teens into his 60s. He was a life-long fan of the New York Rangers and Yankees, and when he moved to San Francisco, he added the Giants to his list of favorite teams. He enjoyed, low-wager gambling, whether at Saratoga Racetrack (mostly harness racing), regional casinos, or OTB. He was an avid theatre goer during his days in NYC, and especially loved musicals.
Thanks to his father’s job at Pan American Airlines, Tom took the opportunity to travel, visiting Europe, England, Australia, Brazil and Japan, where he was swarmed by schoolchildren who wanted to be in his (pre-cell phone) selfie.
An avid collector, he first cataloged coins and stamps and then moved into media, with a physical and digital collection of music and movies that topped a thousand titles. He was computer adept and liked all kinds of tech gadgets. He also enjoyed cooking and was noted for his delicious home-made biscuits, pizza, and beef Wellington on special occasions.
He is survived by his twin sister, Kathleen of Mill Valley, California; brother, Todd of Woodbury, New York; sister, Marianne and brother-in-law, Terry Poltrack of Reston, Virginia; nieces, Alison Arella, Emma and Grace Poltrack; and nephew, Adam Arella; many cousins and dear friends from every chapter of his life, from elementary school in Queens to his beach buddies on the shores of Lake George.
Tom was predeceased by his beloved mother, Kathleen T. Meyer; father, Henry N. Meyer; grandmother, Catherine Azar; and great-aunt, Muriel Hannon.
A celebration of Thomas's life will be held in Lake George where his remains are laid with his parents at Lake George’s Evergreen cemetery on a future date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to the Human Rights Campaign, https://give.hrc.org/ would be most welcome.
Condolences may be sent directly to Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804, or through www.bakerfuneralhome.com.
