Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Thomas J. Newell, 84, of Queensbury, formerly of Lake George, on Thursday January 2, 2025.

Born on July 2, 1940, in Springfield, Ohio, Tom was the son of the late Thomas R. Newell and Ruth E. Taylor Newell. After high school, Tom entered service with the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1958 through 1962. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Ohio and started his career in banking at the former National City Bank in downtown Cleveland where he worked his way up to Vice President. During that time, he met his wife, Jeanne Newell and started their family.

Tom left the world of banking and moved his family to Lake George, New York, purchasing a small convenient store on the outskirts of Lake George Village. Over his time at the store, Tom made countless friends and selflessly served the community, finding satisfaction in every minute dedicated to helping his customers.

When Tom was not working, he was a supportive father, attending his children's sporting events all over the area. No matter what the sport or the season, Tom was always there to lend a hand with practice, often being there between customers to be a catcher, batter, or goalie. After he sold the store, he enjoyed his time taking walks on the beach with his dog Bruno, and spending time with his grandchildren and wife Jeanne. You could often find him enjoying any Ohio sports team game from Ohio State Buckeyes to Cleveland Cavaliers. Tom's quiet way and humble demeanor was a stoic comfort to his family and friends.

Tom was recently predeceased by Jeanne Newell, his wife of 50 years. He was also predeceased by his brother ,Edward Newell; brothers-in-law, Charles Foley and Donald Geron; sister-in-law, Faye Newell; and son-in-law, David Blessing. He is survived by his daughter, Alison Blessing; son, Justin (Rebecca) Newell; grandchildren, Reed Newell and Katelyn Soto; sisters, Anne Foley and Patricia Geron; brother, Frank Newell; and sister-in-law, Margaret (Peg) Newell.

A heartfelt "thank you" is due to the countless nurses and doctors at Glens Falls Hospital who treated Tom with love and kindness during the last few weeks of his life.
