QUEENSBURY --- Wakely R. "Skip" Morehouse Jr., of Zenas Drive, Queensbury, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Glens Falls Hospital.
Born May 16, 1936 in Lake George, he was the son of Ernestine M. (Landry) and the late Wakely R. Morehouse Sr.
In 1954, Skip graduated from St. Mary's Academy.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1954 until 1958, before his honorable discharge in August, 1962. Following his service, Skip became a member of Glens Falls VFW Post No. 2475, and Albany American Legion Post 10.
Skip was briefly employed by Warren County Sheriff's Dept. prior to being employed with the U.S. Post Office, from where he retired in 1990 after many years of dedicated service.
Some of his enjoyments included hunting, fishing, and going to the Saratoga Raceway and Casino. He was also an avid bowler, and loved tending to his garden.
He was predeceased by his father and his daughter, Cynthia.
Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 56 years, Helen (Coffey) Morehouse, of Queensbury; his mother, Ernestine Morehouse of Glens Falls; three sons, Robert (Christine) Morehouse of Lake George, Shawn (Tammy) Morehouse of Queensbury, and Joseph (Gwen) Morehouse of Hudson Falls; also several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 13, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Manerowski, officiating.
Interment, with military honors, will take place in the spring at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
