Obituary

GLENS FALLS--- Wayne Francis Colton, 75, of South St., passed away Thursday, October 27, 2016 at his home.

Born August 19, 1941 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Francis (Buck) and Irene (Warrington) Colton.

Wayne attended Glens Falls High School.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1958, earned his GED, and was honorably discharged in 1964.

He married Arlene Moar in 1961 and they had three daughters and one son together.

Following his retirement from Finch Pruyn in November 1998, after 35 years of dedicated service, Wayne worked part time at Butterfields Grocery for several years. More recently, he had been employed at Friendly Spirits Wine and Liquors in South Glens Falls, and at Murray's Wine and Liquor in Queensbury.

He was a member of the South Glens Falls Eagles Club AERIE 2486 and the South Glens Falls American Legion Post No. 0553. He was also a member of the Moreau Emergency Squad, serving as Captain, and a member of the Empire Ambulance for over thirty years. He was an operational LT. Assistant Captain Line Officer for much of his career.

The Glens Falls Rotary Club named Wayne "Citizen of the Year" in 1993. He shared this award with Dan Marino, with both members representing the Moreau Emergency Squad.

All of his life, Wayne was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved playing pool in his younger years, playing in many leagues, and competing in the New York State Championships in 1970.

Besides his parents, Wayne was predeceased by his son, Michael Colton; one brother, Robert Colton; his longtime companion, Fran Casey; his former wife, Arlene Moar; his beloved dog, Baby.

Survivors include his daughters, Joanne Weber of Watervliet, Beverly Colton of Glens Falls, Karen Bauer (Michael) of Queensbury; 6 grandchildren: granddaughters, Kira Weber (Phillip Ball), Chelsea Colton-Mattison, and Tiffany Bapp, and grandsons, Robert Colton (Trista, and her son, Kaden), United States Marine Sargent, Kristopher Weber, and Kyle Weber; two great-grandsons, Wyatt Ball and Kole Marks; four great-granddaughters, Emily Weber, Briana Weber, Jaelah Ball, and Aaliyah Colton; one sister, Frances Lawrence (Richard) of Moreau; one sister-in-law, Diane Colton of North Carolina; his uncle Herbert "Hoopy" Colton (Joan) of Friends Lake; former son-in-law, John Weber of Hudson Falls; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends, Gene and Betty James of Salem, and Frank Palmer of Mechanicville.

Wayne was especially close to his sister, Fran and her husband, Dick, and also his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who meant the world to him.

Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.

A funeral service will follow at noon at the funeral home with the Rev. Flossie Gage Bates officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
