William
Harney III
Feb 25, 1956 — Apr 7, 2026
Queensbury, NY - William Harney III, 70, passed away very unexpectedly Tuesday, April 7th, 2026, at Albany Medical Center.
Born February 25, 1956, at Glens Falls Hospital, the eldest son to William Harney Jr. and Mary Lou Pike.
Bill grew up in Lake George, graduating in the class of 1974. He then joined the Navy and spent time in many places including being stationed in Morocco before being honorably discharged in 1978. He had 2 children, Jason and Lindsay with his former wife Terry. Bill was very proud of his home in Hartford, that he built by hand. He had 16 acres of land, horses, pigs, chickens, and some of the best neighbors.
He later moved to Queensbury buying a house on West Mountain. Paige came into Bill’s life and they were married on December 31, 2002, or 2003, if you asked either of them they would look at each other, laugh and say “I don’t remember”. Bill retired after 30 years of driving for UPS and won many awards throughout his career, such as Driver of the Year and was recognized for 26 years accident free. He made many lifelong friends over the years and was known as “Hillbilly” in his Buster Brown truck.
He was a family man; he loved having his kids and grandkids over for BBQ’s and summer swimming. Thanksgiving and Christmas memories will live on forever. At Easter, Bill and Paige would have all of us over for a full yard Easter egg hunt. The grandkids always looked forward to the annual camping trip in the RV.
Bill and Paige enjoyed travelling with their RV. Together they explored new places and met new people, he will surely be missed by his camping crew. When he wasn’t camping, he could be found hanging out in the backyard by the pool with friends and family enjoying a cocktail. The colder months were spent with friend’s downstairs at his beautifully built bar known as the “Harney Hole”. It was his man cave, but the women were still allowed, they were the basement crew.
He loved to fish A LOT. He experienced many fishing trips with Paige, his brother Tim, his mom and stepdad. During the past few years dad became an avid rock collector. He would use them to make jewelry, cool rock figurines, or polish them down to make them beautiful. Chances are dad is up there right now searching for some special rocks!
Bill is predeceased by his stepfather, Ronnie Pike; stepmother, Joan Harney; sister in-law, Lynn Williams Harney; and his beloved dogs Hershey and Goober.
He is survived by his wife, Paige Harney of Queensbury; father, William Harney Jr. of Florida; mother, Mary Lou Pike of Corinth; children, Jason Harney of Glens falls, and Lindsay Mehalick of Queensbury; grandchildren, Kellen, Ethan, and Kaitlyn Harney, Mikayla and Kendall Mehalick; brothers, Tim Harney of Corinth, David (Bonnie) Harney of Hudson Falls, Richard (Kelly) Harney of Arkansas; five step-siblings; sisters-in-law, Pamela Jepson of MN, Paula Powers and Patti Powers both of South Glens Falls and Margaret Powers of Glens Falls; his former wife, Terry Lamkins Parent; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends including his lifelong best friend Chris Green.
He was proud to be an organ donor, we would like to thank Albany med for their care in the last few days and making his donor wish come true.
