LAKE GEORGE --- Dr. William Thomas Vosburgh, 85, of Cleverdale, N.Y., and formerly of Narragansett, R.I., passed away Friday, June 14, 2013 at his home on Lake George, which he called "the center of the universe."
Born December 9, 1927 in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Dr. Beverly and Mary (Thomas) Vosburgh.
William graduated from Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady. While attending the University of Maine, William met and married Jeannette Cates on June 24, 1950. He later received his Ph. D from Syracuse University.
On September 23, 1952, William enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War, stationed in Ft. Hood, Texas, and was honorably discharged July 1, 1960.
He spent his 30-year career as Professor of Psychology at the University of Rhode Island where he was the Director and Founder of the School Psychology Graduate Program. William was also the Director of the Peace Corps Training Program at Dartmouth College for several years.
Some of his many enjoyments included skiing and swimming competitively, sailing on Lake George and Narragansett Bay, fly-fishing, and playing tennis. For many years, he loved traveling North America in his motor home with his family.
He was a mentor to many, and will be greatly missed for his intelligence, creativity, and absolute love of life.
In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by a sister, Mary Shanklin.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Jeannette C. Vosburgh; four daughters, Lisa V. (Jay S.) Earl, Beverly Vosburgh, Evan (Chris) Connolly, and Jean F. Garry (Mike Blackburn); seven grandchildren, Tara and Travis Earl, Fanya DeForrest (Nate Reese), Will and Cora Connolly, and Alexandra and Gavin Garry; and three great-grandchildren, Xavier, Isabell, and Rylan.
A graveside ceremony, with military honors, will take place on his 63rd wedding anniversary, Monday, June 24, at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Birch Ave., Lake George.
