What Bob loved.
He loved his wife and his family. He hosted countless gatherings for holidays and family reunions, celebrating accomplishments and milestones, and just being together. He was always open to finding room to include all generations of family and friends on vacations or even just randomly at his home in Cortlandt, NY, his beloved log house on Lake Sunnyside, NY, or Hernando, FL.
He was proud of his Polish heritage and shared it with stories and cooking food - pierogies, potato pancakes, and pickled beets.
He loved his country. He was very proud that his father had served in both World War I and World War II. He donated some of his father's gear from battle to Fort Bragg.
He loved teaching and the logic of math. During his career in education, he excelled at connecting with students on a personal level, making significant impacts on many lives and the community he served. His time in Heidelberg, Germany, teaching on the military base was something he cherished for the experience, the new friends, and giving back through educating.
He loved the Adirondacks. He spent many happy times boating and swimming in the beautiful waters of Lake George. As well as countless hours of work protecting the waters of Lake Sunnyside.
He loved competition. If he wasn't in the competition, he wasn't happy. His passion for tennis and skiing, then golf and fishing, drove him to always keep active and engaged. He was never willing to do nothing and shifted his sports passions as he was able to compete. Becoming a member of Glens Falls Country Club was a proud accomplishment.
He loved woodworking and the precision it required. He built home additions, kids' furniture, and intricate cutting boards. Many of the wood of a walnut tree he saved from destruction from the yard of his home in Cortlandt.
He loved to do things himself. Always trying to fix everything himself or invent a solution to a problem. Dedicated to caring for the things he had, he worked hard mowing, raking, painting, planting, fixing, and building... if he could do it, he would.
As his family, we have received the gift of being a part of all his passions. We feel blessed, loved, and will keep his legacy alive.
To honor Bob's wishes, private services will be held with family only.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ossining High School Robert J Huntz Scholarship fund would help students in the years to come.
